Music Projects
Lounge.
This is just a chill little beat that I made out of guitar samples that my friend gave to me. Not all things have to be super complicated I guess. However, I did make an ambient sound simply by reversing the guitar riff and chopping it back together, which is what you prominently hear in the intro of the project. I had this tucked away for a while and I haven’t posted much lately and it’s a project I enjoyed to hear the outcome of!
Felt.
There is no real inspiration for this one, rather how I felt. Music is my medium to understand my feelings and to better compartmentalize my own understanding of those feelings. The words I wrote and the music I paired with it made it become not a sad melody, but a bittersweet one.
Not many great things in life are permanent, and that’s okay.
Sagittarius (SGR A)
The inspiration for this project came to me while I was looking at a particular video loop of a black hole. I don’t really make too many space related feelings so I wanted to try it out again! I do like the theme of space and the kind of sounds I can use for such themes, and this time I tried to really focus on designing a bass sound that drones to encapsulate the grandness and horror of a blackhole!
Airplane.
The inspiration for this project comes from the feeling of traveling and being on an airplane with a loved one. Although it feels a bit stuffy and cramped in an airplane, there is still a wholesome feeling that I get when I’m able to spend time and trying to find ways to kill time on the airplane.
Anxiety Pt. 1
This song is a kind of representation of how I see anxiety. I guess for me, it’s sort of like a boss fight that I struggle with everyday. Although I tend to beat the feeling it always comes back. This has a much more segmented approach than my last few concepts, so I hope you enjoy! I’ve had quite a few ideas on this theme so I am segmenting it into parts.
Daft.
This project originally was supposed to be a song with lyrics and all that, but I started playing around with layers and textures with my guitar and thought it would make for a pretty good electronic track. I named it daft because I took a lot of inspiration in the bass line and melodic lines from some of my favorite daft punk songs (aerodynamic and veridis quo to name a few). I really like playing with guitar textures and this was my first project where I built off of guitar textures!
Together.
This is a personal song I made on valentine’s day for reasons. I think the song itself encapsulates the feeling of being in love, the feeling of comfort, safety, and commitment to someone so strongly that you want to be with them for the rest of your life. I never have written a song or used my voice in any of my projects until I made this and it was kind of an interesting process to do all of that on my own to be honest. I’m very proud of what I made here as a small week-long project though. I hope you all enjoy!
Inspired by…
A thread of tracks inspired by concepts of people, or feelings expressed through music production. Perhaps there may not be in-depth explanations for these as the journey of these tracks should tell it all.
Through the Night Lo-fi cover (GogiBeats)
Shine and I have been working on this for a couple of weeks, but the longest part was probably trying to do the video since it takes a bit to refine and export it. Our projects that we make on GogiBeats always aim to be simple and enjoyable to listen to.
Officially Missing You by Oolong and Shine.
This project has been in the making for a while! Shine came to me with this project to make a collaborative song with Oolong. Most of the challenge came from trying to match the timbre of sound from both of their voices, since they are both recording in very different conditions! It was overall a great experience and hope to do more collaborative work!
Kind of Spooky.
This is the first project that I’ve tried using a sample as the central connection to different ideas. It started out as a trap beat if I’m being honest, but it quickly turned into a very halloween-like song that I’ve become quite happy with. I tried to do this before when I first started producing, but my attempts back then weren’t as good as they are today. This is actually named “Kind of Spooky” because I sampled the guitar melody from “My Kind of Woman” by Mac DeMarco. I removed the “my” from the title because it sounds a little more catchy as “Kind of Spooky” rather than “My Kind of Spooky”, you feel?
Drowning.
Although it has been a while since I’ve made any music, I assure you all that I’ve not given up on it. I’ve been trying different things and have been trying to juggle my priorities all at once. It has definitely been a bit difficult in that aspect, and I really miss doing more music stuff! Hopefully I will be able to make stuff more often!
Dreamy Night Cover
This is the first song uploaded to GogiBeats. GogiBeats is a collaborative Youtube Channel that I have with Shine made for music that we make together and our first project here is a cover of Lilypichu’s Dreamy Night. This was a lot of fun to work on and a very different experience in terms of music producing. I had to mix a lot of different sounds including guitars, vocals, rap vocals, drums, synths, etc. The final project ended up having like 25 different tracks or something like that. I hope to continue to produce more songs with vocals and acoustic sounds since all of my projects so far are mostly midi.
Revisiting “Orion”.
Perhaps I am attached to this project because it was my first music project I’ve ever uploaded, but I believed I could make the song a little more characteristic of what I had in mind when I first worked on it. I named the song Orion because the song itself is the sentimental feeling I get when I go stargazing. Every time I head east to my favorite stargazing spot, I’ll always be able to spot orion’s belt. I’d say it is my favorite constellation there. The feeling of stargazing is sentimental to me because I’ve had many nice experiences stargazing. I’m still quite attached to that feeling, and I want to make sure that I conveyed that feeling in this project.
Heart.
I was sitting at one of my favorite spots on the island and kind of thought of this small song. It’s very heavily layered and the tempo picks up after the beginning to emulate what I often feel when I feel a bit anxious. I tried a few different things and adding different samples such as the heart rate monitor beeping and kind of staying simple by just using a piano and a synth as the main instruments.
Jam.
This is a smaller project that I’ve built based on a little melody that I was randomly playing on my keyboard! Focused on mostly transitioning different sounds such as going from that rhodes-like sound to a saw lead. I think some things I need to work on in the future is mixing and balancing sounds to keep everything sounding a little cleaner.
Winter.
This song I’ve been working on is inspired by the feelings of the winter season. Although Hawaiʻi doesn’t have many seasons, or snow for that matter, I think the comfy and warm feeling that we often get during winter in our safe spaces is a universal feeling. The track is very heavy on bass lines and favors the mid tones in order to bring the feeling of warmth while there are also bells and a glockenspiel-type instrument for that touch of Christmas vibes. I started on this project after one of my co-worker/friends suggested that I make Christmas music. I guess you could say that this is my attempt at that!
Song for Burstonwitpowa.
This was a project that I’ve worked on with Shineypants for Burstonwitpowa. He requested an 80s-like synthwave song with a little touch of meme because, you know, he’s the homie. I really enjoyed working on this song with Shineypants and he added in a sick guitar solo for the ending part, so I think this project was a success!
Wander.
This music project started off with a piano melody which I turned into a more electronic-type song. The song is supposed to sound like the feeling of being lost and exploring places that I’ve never explored before. It’s a bit aimless in direction. In parallel to the song, this is the first project I’ve worked on that wasn’t fully a lo-fi or chill song, so it might sound kind of hectic at times.
1 Track/Week Project
This was a project I took on during July which I’ve ended at the beginning of September where I made one small track per week.
